NDA ally Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP) chief and union minister Upendra Kushwaha on Tuesday met BJP’s national general secretary Bhupendra Yadav, who is in-charge of BJP’s Bihar unit, to discuss seat sharing arrangement in New Delhi.
The meeting between Kushwaha and Yadav is politically significant in view of the recent decision of BJP-JDU to contest equal number of seats in Bihar 2019 LS polls. This would complicate and shrink the space to accommodate smaller parties like RLSP and union minister Ram Vilas Paswan-headed Lok Janshakti Party.
“I will try my best to reach a respectable agreement on numbers. We contested three seats in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls and won all the three. If needed, I will meet PM Narendra Modi also,” Kushwaha told reporters at his residence in New Delhi after his meeting with BJP’s Yadav.
Though Kushwaha did not disclose the exact number of seats he sought, he made it clear that his talk with Bhupendra was friendly.
“It was positive talk. I communicated to him about the sentiment of my party leaders and workers for a respectable agreement,” he said.
He added the BJP had wanted that he meet with the party’s national president Amit Shah and national general secretary Bhupendra Yadav.
